“Anne Montgomery steadily gains in expressive power. Her ‘White Flowers’ has sensitivity and unity and her ‘Mountain Landscape’ some excellent form.”
Further Information
Anne Montgomery came from an artistic family and rose to prominence amongst the modernist art schools of Melbourne as a student and a teacher, exhibiting widely in the 1930s and 40s including painting, watercolours, printmaking, murals and is today represented in collections including the National Gallery of Australia, National Gallery of Victoria, Gippsland Art Gallery and the State Library of Victoria.
Mountain Landscape has elements leaning towards surrealism with strong decorative elements and an emphasis on shape, volume and rhythm in the composition.
