Further Information

This painting is the work recorded in Renée Free's catalogue (O 21) and is possibly the painting shown in the 1924 Exton House, Brisbane exhibition (cat. 10 ''The Barn Yard'' 12 gns). The original title was forgotten over time and the title ''Old Barn Parramatta II'' was supplied because of its obvious similarity to the Manly Art Gallery's ''Old Barn, Parramatta'' which was shown in the 1924 Royal Art Society show as ''Old Barn''. There is also an ''Old Barn'' which appears in the catalogue of the 1925 show at the New Gallery in Melbourne which is probably the same work. Parramatta was likely added later, possibly when the work was given to Manly Art Gallery.
